Guide to Acne Skin Care in Winter

During the winter time, the cold weather can irritate the skin causing breakouts to become worse. The cold air can suck the moisture right out of your skin, leaving it red, blotchy and dry. It's important to switch up your skin care routine during the winter to keep your skin moisturized and looking its best.
Switch Your Cleanser
The cleanser that you use on your face during the summer time is not the same cleanser you should be using during the winter. If your face feels tight and dry after applying your cleanser, then it's probably too harsh for your skin and you should switch to a milder product.
During the winter, skip the liquid cleansers and use a gentle cleansing soap such as Neutrogena or Dove. These will help fight acne and keep the skin looking and feeling fresh. Remember to never wear makeup to bed to avoid getting acne in the first place.
Keep Moisturized
It's important to apply a good moisturizer at all types but especially during the winter months. This is because most acne treatments dry out the skin and cause it to become red, irritated, resulting in peeling and flaking skin.
If you have natural oily skin, use a light weight moisturizer that is free of oil. On the bottle it should say noncomedogenic. This will help to prevent the product from blocking your pores. Apply a thin layer to your face after using your cleanser.
Hydrate Your Body
While it's important to keep your face moisturized on the outside, it's also extremely important to keep it hydrated on the inside. Drinking at least 8 glasses of water every day will help keep the skin soft and glowing.
Dehydrated skin can cause it to look and feel dry and tight. Drinking water can put the needed moisture back in the skin naturally. Avoid drinking fluids that contain caffeine is these can actually hydrate you even more.
Alternate Acne Meds
Most people apply their acne medications on a daily basis. While this method may be okay during the summer time, during the winter the meds may become too harsh on your dry skin. Instead, alternate your acne medications to keep the skin healthy. Every other day apply a thin layer on a clean face.
If you're able to, skip the acne medications altogether during the winter to avoid making your skin more irritated. You can also try only applying your meds once or twice a week and use other milder alternatives to keep your skin clear.
